Houston 19-Year-Old Uses Firearm To Defend Self From Two 16-Year-Old Attackers
An alleged drug deal went wrong in quite dramatic fashion in Houston, Texas, at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday, April 17. That is when two 16-year-old teens tried robbing a 19-year-old in the Sharpstown area of southwest Houston. According to the police department, the 19-year-old was beaten up by the two younger teens and was handed a gun by his mother, which he used to fire on them and save himself.
The incident unfolded, local media station ABC 13 reports, in the El Paraiso Apartments complex in the Sharpstown area. Then, when the reported victim met with his two alleged attackers for a drug deal, they allegedly attacked him with a pair of brass knuckles, beating him and demanding he go bring them anything of value from his apartment.Instead of doing that, he retrieved a firearm, one apparently handed to him by his mother. Then, when the two teens threatened his mother while demanding objects from the apartment, he opened fire on them, striking both. One of the teens died at the scene, and the other was wounded but survived and taken to the hospital. The 19-year-old had to be taken to the hospital as well to receive treatment for the injuries inflicted upon him during the brass knuckles beatdown.ABC 13 quotes a Lt. Riley in the police department as saying, when describing the incident, “He opened fire, striking both suspects. One is deceased here on scene. The other was shot in the abdomen and leg. That suspect was transported to a local hospital by HFD. Everyone involved in this case is an older teen, 19 to 16 years in age.”
ABC 13 also quoted a resident of the apartment complex, Brian Payne, as wishing for less violent times, saying that he yearns for the days when people would just have a fistfight in which there were no real injuries or risks to bystanders. He said, “I wish it was like the old days where everybody would fight instead of shoot.” Payne also said, “I was lying in bed, heard gunshots, and when I came out here, saw someone lying right here facedown on the ground, went and checked for a pulse, and he was already dead.”
Unfortunately, drug-related danger is a big problem for Houston. In a recent post on Facebook, for example, the Houston Police Department noted that it had seized dozens of kilos of meth, some heroin, and a rifle from a meth lab in the area.
They announced, “Dangerous drugs are off our streets today thanks to good police work and our multi-agency partnerships. Officers with HPD’s Narcotics Division and Northeast Crime Suppression Team were part of the effort to dismantle a meth lab. Investigators seized 45 kilograms of methamphetamine, a half kilogram of black tar heroin and one AK-47 style rifle. The investigation is ongoing as HPD and our partners continue to work together to keep our streets safe.”
Similarly, ABC 13 noted that violent incidents of this sort are nothing new for the area, reporting, “This is just the latest shooting to happen on Corporate Drive. On Sunday, April 14, a young boy walking on the sidewalk was hit by a bullet fired from a passing car.”
